Welcome to Week 30 of The Daily Grind Business Podcast Weekly Summaries. Each week the interviewees impart their wisdom by sharing their experiences. Learn from them. To connect with them and to receive some free information please click on the links below.

There is a common thread with all successful entrepreneurs and that is the importance of investing in both your business and personal growth. So each week we also share with you titles of books that either these entrepreneurs have written or suggested that you read.

The people who Colin interviews didn’t just make a million dollars. They persevered. A lot of them failed; but they got back up, dusted themselves off and got back in the race. They had an undying belief that what they were doing was the right thing and would eventually take off – it just needed time and more hard work. In the process, they reached out to mentors, read books, listened to podcasts and audiobooks and attended seminars. They got rid of their egos and they learned from people who were doing exactly what they wanted to do.

We are passionate about helping entrepreneurs get started in their businesses so this is why we have compiled weekly notes from our weekly podcasts. The entrepreneurs who so graciously offered their time to be interviewed are passionate about giving back and helping others as we do.

1. Michael Zipursky is an author, entrepreneur, and CEO of ConsultingSuccess.com. He has consulted for organizations and advised leaders throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Middle East in over 30 industries, from service providers to billion-dollar multinational corporations including Panasonic, Dow Jones, Financial Times, Royal Bank and many Michael is an in-demand speaker and gives keynotes and workshops for the Certified Management Consultants Association, Canadian Internet Marketing Conference, Chartered Management Institute UK and others.

2. Katie Welsh is the Co-Founder of Chain of Wealth, which was created from what started as a simple conversation between Katie and Denis about finances.

Katie has a phenomenal debt story. She was actually over $200,000 in debt and has reduced that to now only $26,000.

3. Jeff J. Hunter is the founder and Chief Freedom Officer at VA Staffer, the outsourcing agency he created to help businesses build virtual teams. With a background in IT and virtual project management, he knows the ins and outs of getting projects done virtually. Today Jeff shares his story of how this all got started.

4. Mike Xave, a former Robotics Engineer, now Airbnb Entrepreneur spent years struggling to break out of the 9-5 until he stumbled upon Airbnb.

Now, Mike is the founder and CEO of the short-term rental agency, King Street Stays, that specializes, and offers to coach in Airbnb rental optimization and automation.


5. Carl Allen is an entrepreneur, investor, and corporate dealmaker who has worked on transactions worth over $50 billion, which includes over 250 acquisitions and sales, together with more than 100 capital fundraising projects. In a 24-year career, Carl has analysed thousands of businesses, big and small, in 17 different countries and across nearly every business sector, including technology, pharmaceuticals, transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, consumer goods and services, business services, retail, professional services, finance, packaging, and corporate clothing.

Carl walks the talk, having acquired and sold numerous businesses for himself. Carl is one of the world’s premier experts on buying and financing small business acquisitions and coaches more than 700 entrepreneurs all over the world to buy small businesses rather than starting new ones.

Many of us just “back off” when we encounter challenges or tough situations. But if you really want to make progress then you have to figure it out. Lean into it and get it done. I think people try to overcomplicate their marketing and sales because they are trying to stay on the leading edge. “I am on a mission to help people start Airbnb businesses. It started in 2011 after I read the book – The 4-hour workweek. I was studying engineering. I then realized after reading this book that I wanted to create a passive income lifestyle.
I partner with landlords to help put their properties on Airbnb. I acquire properties without owning any real estate.  Anybody can do this.”  by Mike Xave

I came up with this concept called the ROI mindset. You need to identify how much money you want to make. Then you need to back calculate what you think you are worth. The decision as to how much you think you are worth is the key. Now, I only allow myself to do the tasks that will produce the results that I am looking for. This forced me to delegate and automate the business.”  by Mike Xave

“Things started to change when I sat myself down and wrote out in detail what I wanted out of life. I created a vision for myself. So I would recommend to people who want to start a business is to make your vision now.

“We are looking for the types of sellers that built good businesses but are now stale. We evaluate each business based on 3 things. We make sure each business relates to our own experiences. We look for businesses that have assets and cash flow and we check that each business is not under threat.”  by Carl Allen

“When you start a new company from scratch you don’t have any of the things that an established company does. You have no employees, no cash or credit, no products and services and you have no customers and it’s really, really hard to raise money for a start-up.
If you want to innovate and do something the world has never seen before then go and buy a small business that does something similar and then innovate from within that business.
